Caribou Run 2006

Well, it's about time! 'Caribou Run' is a project that I started a few years back in 2003. The aim was to both design a Christmas card that my family could use and have a convenient way to document my style and skill over time.

The River of Inspiration was absolutely NOT flowing this year when I sketched this piece, so it's basically a re-hash of the 2004 one. With different colors. 8D And hopefully improved anatomy. The background came around kind of as an 'improv', of sorts. I started to make a light red layer and decided to add the trees, mountains, and (crappy) snowflakes LATER. But otherwise, I really like how the caribou itself came out. In future years, I hope to portray two caribou parents with a calf.

(Side note: HOLY CRAP, it's eyes are open! What a rare event! [I'm just poking fun at the fact that most of my finished drawings depict figures with their eyes closed. Or not showing at all])
